Prof. Anthony Reid, Ph.D
Born in New Zealand, 1939. Is a historian from New Zealand. His works have a lot to do with the history of Aceh since the founding of the Aceh Sultanate, South Sulawesi, and the modern history of the Dutch East Indies / Indonesia in the 20th century. He is also known as an expert on Southeast Asian history. His introduction to Asia (Southeast) began when at the age of 13 he joined his father in Indonesia as a UN employee for three years (1952-1954). His doctoral studies at Cambridge University were completed in 1969 regarding the rivalry between the Sultanate of Aceh, the Netherlands, and England between 1858-1898. After earning a Ph.D., he taught at the University of Malaya since 1965. Then he moved to teach at the Australian State University (Australian National University, ANU) with Southeast Asian study expertise. He left ANU in 1999 and founded the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at UCLA, Los Angeles, as well as being a professor there. There he helped pioneer a support program from the Ford Foundation to finance research on asian studies.


Prof. Kamarulzaman Askandar
He is a lecturer in political science at the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia, and a specialist in conflict resolution. He is particularly interested in peace studies, conflict resolution, and Southeast Asian international relations. He currently heads the Research and Education for Peace Unit at the Universiti Sains Malaysia, a regional base for the Southeast Asian Conflict Studies Network (SEACSN), which he also helps to coordinate. The SEACSN is a network of individuals and institutions—mainly regional actors—involved in peace and conflict resolution research and practice. It was established in May 2001 with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) to help find peaceful resolutions to the problems of Southeast Asia. Dr. Askandar is also a member of the Asian Political and International Studies Association (APISA). He holds a B.A. in political science from the University of West Texas; an M.A. in government from the University of Texas; and a Ph.D. in conflict resolution from Bradford University (UK).


Nazamuddin, Ph.D
Nazamuddin is an economist. He has since 1987 been a lecturer and researcher at Fakultas Ekonomi, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh – Indonesia. He did his undergraduate study at Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh (1986), then continued to a Masters degree at the School of Economics, University of the Philippines (1989). He earned his Ph.D in economics from Colorado State University, United States (1996). He is also at present Vice Chairman of Aceh Education Council and Chairman of the Trustee Board of the Aceh Institute. Saiful Mahdi, Ph.D

Dr. Otto Syamsuddin Ishak
Born in Yogyakarta, October 14, 1959, received a doctorate in sociology from the University of Indonesia (2011) with a dissertation title, Post-Conflict Aceh: Contestation Arena 3 Variant of Nationalism. Sociology and geography bachelor’s degrees were obtained from Gadjah Mada University (1995 and 1987). Since 1989 he was recorded as a lecturer at Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh. In addition, he was active in various civil society organizations in Banda Aceh, including KIPP, ACSTF, AJMI, Saree School, Aceh Institute, and the New Aceh Consortium, mainly as director of Cordova. In 2000 he was involved in GAM-RI negotiations facilitated by HDC, which in his implementation served as secretary to the Independent Monitoring Committee. Since 2002 he has been active in civil society organizations in Jakarta, among others, Yappika and Imparsial. A number of studies have been conducted, then wrote articles in a number of local and Jakarta mass media, and scientific journals such as Prisma, as well as a number of books on human rights violations, Conflict Resolution in Aceh. Now as the coordinator of the Academics for Papua Peace Forum, and together with a number of members of the Academic Forum and Imparsial writing a book on negotiations for peaceful Papua entitled, Negotiation: Noken Dialogue for Peaceful Papua (2012).


Fuad Mardhatillah, M.A
Fuad is one of the founders of The Aceh Institute. Everyday he works as a lecturer in philosophy of education at IAIN Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh. An alumni of the Master of Arts in Islamic Studies from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, he also served as an education consultant for the World Bank [2008-2009], Deputy for Socio-Cultural and Religious Affairs at the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency [2005-2006 ] In addition, he is also a writer and speaker of various highly productive seminars and workshops. Lukman Age, M.Sc
Lukman Age is the Executive Director of The Aceh Institute for the period 2007-2010. He completed a master’s program at the Malaysian University of Science in conflict resolution and peace. Risman A Rachman, S.Ag
Is one of the founders of The Aceh Institute, active as a facilitator of Peace and capacity building at IMPACT Banda Aceh. Completed Education at the IAIN Ar-Raniry Darussalam Da’wah Faculty, Banda Aceh. He served as Director of Culture at the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency. Besides that Risman is also a prolific writer in various media such as Serambi Indonesia, Aceh Daily, Kompas and Koran Tempo. He can be reached at risman.rachman@yahoo.com


Chairul Fahmi, M.A
He is the Executive Director of The Aceh Institute 2011 – 2014. He is also listed as a Lecturer at the Islamic Faculty of IAIN Ar-Raniry, Darussalam, Banda Aceh. This alumni of the University of Portsmouth’s Master in European and Policy (MAELP) has been active in various international humanitarian institutions; Child Fund International, Canadian Red Cross, IOM, World Bank and AJRC. He is also an active writer in various Jounal and mass media. Evi Ramadhani, M.Si
Is a permanent lecturer at MIPA Mathematics Department, Syiah Kuala University. He was also active as a research manager at The Aceh Institute from 2005 to 2011. Aguswandi

Aguswandi is a peace and conflict adviser with the United Nations in Afghanistan. An Acehnese origin and co-editor of the Conciliation Resources’ Accord publication Reconfiguring Politics: The Indonesia-Aceh Peace Process, he was Weatherhead Center for International Affairs Fellow at Harvard University, and a member of the United Nations Mediation Roster.
